Cruisin’ to The Voice

The June edition of The Southsider Voice’s cruise-in was Friday evening. As with the first cruise-in of 2016 in May, there was a great turnout of more than 100 classic cars and hot rods. A modest crowd of car enthusiasts were present on an overcast but beautiful evening.

The monthly car show is sponsored by The Voice, Beck Service Center, Jim Harris of Ziebart and Chris Dant of Dant Insurance.

As with all the cruise-ins, free food is served. Friday’s menu featured chicken tenders from Chick-A-Boom, Little Caesars pizza and baked beans. Beck Service Center, Jockamo Pizza and Ponderosa supplied the door prizes, and Paul Rippy played tunes from the 1950s and ’60s and ran the 50/50 drawing.

The atmosphere is always festive as proud car owners are ready to share stories and information with curious onlookers. The cars range from the dawn of the automobile to present, both in stock and custom form. And it’s not just cars displayed, there are also custom trucks and motorcycles.

This is the third year for the cruise-ins, and they continue to grow in popularity. Start time is 6 p.m. the first Friday of each month from May through October, and cruisers have been known to stick around past 10 p.m.
There is a great group of regulars, including the Southside Mustang and the National Corvette clubs.

Make plans to attend the next one July 1. The crowd ranges from children to senior citizens, and everyone has a good time. The events serve as a popular place for cruisers and old friends to meet.
