Chet Aubin from Bargersville is the proud owner of a 1971 Pontiac Tempest with GTO badging on it. He calls his car Big Blue.

His sister bought the car brand-new and drove it for 10 years, driving it some 70,000 miles. When she moved back to Indiana the car was parked in their mother’s garage and never driven again for 35 years. After their mother died, Chet was given the car and began its rebirth.

He took the car to Graham Custom Auto in Franklin for much of the restoration. The interior was reupholstered and repainted.

A General Motors 455 cubic-inch big block engine was added together with 3.73 gear ratio and positraction. Aftermarket 17-inch rims replaced the stock 14-inch ones together with a heavy-duty frame. Then the “stiletto blue” paint scheme was added to finish off the project.

Chet is beginning to attend more car shows this year and hopes to be seen more often in central Indiana this summer.

Until next time, happy cruising!
